July 4 Plymouth, Inc., was founded in 1980 after
the town of Plymouth decided it could no
longer afford to fund the Independence Day
celebration. A small group of local citizens
joined together to raise funds for this
annual tradition and July 4 Plymouth, Inc.
was born. July 4 Plymouth is a non-profit,
501 (c) (3) charitable corporation. This
committee has spent over twenty-five years
seeing to it that the parade and fireworks
happen. All of the funds needed for the
days’ activities are raised by private donations.
Since the 1980's the town has not been able to fund the basic costs of the 4th of July parade and fireworks due to buget restraints. In recent years we have been responsible for paying all town services i.e. police, fire, and department of public works personnel that support the parade and fireworks. The budget this year is $115,000 for both events, parade is $45,000 and the fireworks are $70,000. The town services will cost the committee $48,000 this year. The committee members are unpaid volunteers with all dollars raised going directly to the performers, town support staff and fireworks company.
To date we have raised the funds necessary for the parade and fireworks.
